1992/93 YETI ARC AS
"Jimmy Deaton"
Story of the bike
I received this Yeti ARC AS directly from Jimmy Deaton, who owned it since retiring the bike in April 1993.
When Yeti hired Jimmy before the 1992 season, they didn't want to build him a custom frame to his specs, so he almost didn't race for Yeti as he wasn't going to race on a standard geometry frame.
This bike won the 92' Kamikaze race, with the original race number mounted and won a silver medal at Downhill World Championships in Bromont, CAN.
Jimmy raced it last in March 1993 in Argentina (the photo with the yellow rear end) and then came straight back to compete at the Cactus Cup.
The Yeti team riders usually didn't get their new race bikes till a week before the first NORBA National race.
Stickers got constantly renewed, that's why they look different from the Kamikaze and sponsors changed for 93' so a few were removed from the frame.
The Tension Disc rear wheel was only mounted for the Kamikaze, as well as the 66 tooth chainring. Saddle and Seatpost also changed for 93'.
Manitou 1 fork got exchanged for the then new Manitou 2 fork between the Kamikaze and World Championships 1992.
Seat and chain stays got replaced in early 93' and the whole bike was repainted after the Argentina trip. It might actually have not been ridden or raced since it got repainted.
Yeti riders just grabbed parts when they needed them, that's why they changed all the time and different colors were used as well.
